This morning’s news that Michael Keaton was in early talks to reprise his role of Bruce Wayne in the 2022 Flash movie broke the internet. It also made people wonder what that means for Affleck’s Batman in the main DCEU as it appears that Matt Reeve’s The Batman is indeed in its own standalone universe like Joker.
According to Daniel Richtman, after The Flash film soft-reboots the universe; Michael Keaton’s Bruce Wayne will replace the Affleck Batman as the aging mentor figure in the DCEU:
Now that it's out – Michael Keaton to replace Ben Affleck as the DCEU's Batman. Will co-star in Flashpoint.— Daniel Richtman #BlackLivesMatter (@DanielRPK) June 22, 2020
This is referring to the Multiverse. Meaning that following the Flashpoint-esque events in The Flash, the 1989 Bruce Wayne would become part of the DCEU and then be the “Nick Fury”-style mentor figure appearing in multiple movies. Obviously this would also debunk all of those social media accounts claiming that AT&T wanted a Battfleck TV series on HBO Max, especially as Ben Affleck has moved on from the role in all of his recent comments.
